[Modern fantasy Erebonia that isn't quite as wholesome as normal Erebonia because then how could we have potential gross. Anyway. There's a certain organization out there very interested in the supernatural, and not so interested in their ethics when pursuing it. Which is how they've come to purchase a human girl from a mercenary group. No Zephyr, that group has disbanded from the death of their boss, but a girl from Zephyr, which makes he a capable fighter and a desirable person to buy slash hire as a bodyguard for a certain unethical experiment.

The thing is, that organization is still not sure what to do with their very powerful but inconveniently nice and even more inconveniently unstable half-demon, so for now Fie has simple been assigned the task of bodyguard. Which means she is shipped to the facility her charge lives in, where she'll share a living space with and training facilities with "Rean". Living conditions aren't too bad honestly, and while their are stuff around for various things the part of the facility she's dumped in is left mostly alone.

Part of the problem, she may have heard on the way, is the subject is not someone with much self-control over his demonic changes, and while most of the time it's safe to interact with, part of Fie's job might include suppressing the experiment subject, especially on missions.

Missions, however, won't be for a while. They need to get to know each other.

So welcome to your new home, it's a complex of several rooms of various types with many normal facilities including an entertainment room and training areas, and of course rooms for herself and her new mission.

Said mission is not in the first room she looks, she'll have to explore to find him in the kitchen.]

Rean smiles at Fie, really, honestly, just glad for someone here, more than anything, more than training or video games or whatever, having someone to talk to is the best thing in his life.]

Ah--good morning. I hope it meets expectations. [He made bacon and eggs and pancakes so he's leading the way back to breakfast!]

[breakfast is great, of course. She doesn't have a single complaint about it, and while that in and of itself might not mean much, it's still good.]

[He's happy for the company and casually social, asking more about her as they eat then leading the way to training.

It's just a casual, getting to know you training session, and he ends it impressed with her skill. Before they can relax however they're summoned by speakers in the walls to the main room where a severe woman waits for them with a mission.

Looks like it won't be a boring job after all. With Fie as Rean's leash, they're going hunting for rare quartz and dangerous monsters. Fie is to back Rean up and help eliminate dangers of course, protecting Rean, is her primary objective. But her secondary objective is to subdue Rean and return him if things go wrong.]

[she answers his questions straightforwardly, and it mostly comes down to stuff about Zephyr. Her job was get family and her life, after all, and at her age there's not a lot more to tell.

For the training session, too, the way she holds back is simply because they're sparring. In another world she'd have reason to hide her skill, but in this one she doesn't, so she doesn't bother fucking around with trying to act like she's weaker than she is. She's pretty happy with his performance, too. He held his own, and was a fun challenge.

She assumes their little match doubled as an assessment of her skill, especially given the timing of the announcement. Rean gets to see how fie responds to orders, too, the small expressions of playfulness dying out in the face of a businesslike seriousness.]

[Rean watches Fie as much as he watches the woman, taking the tablet with their first assignment on it.

He doesn't protest when she says they leave tonight, though that's hardly any notice.]

[fie waits for the severe woman to leave before engaging directly with rean again, stretching idly as if she's been waiting to since their match ended.]

Guess we'd better make sure our gear is all in order. Let me know if you need help packing, okay?

I should be fine. But have you even had a change to UNpack?

[He's happy about getting a change of pace but it feels so abrupt with her arrival.]

[she shrugs]

I can pack a bit lighter for this. We're not moving into the monster's den, after all.

I really hope not, at least.

[Rean doesn't take too long himself. This isn't his first mission ever, but it's the first one with a bodyguard younger than he is. Well, it'll be nice to go out for a change. He's ready when their escort comes for them, and he's just as normal and friendly to the person taking them out to their destination as he is to Fie. He seems to Just Be This Way. It's a few hours ride but they're dropped off on a mountain trail with instructions and a description of their target plus some bonus things they could hunt for. Food and sleeping bags provided, they'll be picked up at this location in 24 hours.]

[it's not all that surprising to her that he's just Like This. Treating her the way he does is a pretty big tip off to him acting that way the rest of the time, given her everything.

Speaking of Just Being Like This, Fie naps on the way over, waking easily when they slow to a stop, taking their instructions with clear experience and businesslike comfort with this sort of situation. She eases up again when they're gone, though, shifting from what most people would take as relaxed to actual relaxation.]

Right. Let's go for the big one first, then see how we're doing on time.

Sounds like a good plan. [He holds up the digital map that is tracking their location vs where they should go for the quest monster.] It should be about an hour hike from here it looks like.

[peers at it then nods]

Right. Let's get going, then.

Yeah. Let's keep on the alert too, it's pretty dangerous this far out. [But he's going to start walking, calm but alert.]
